Cusco – the main city of the eponymous Peruvian region is the oldest continuously inhabited city in Latin America. It is located in the Andes near Urubamba Sacred Valley at 3500 m. altitude. As the capital of the ancient Inca this incredibly beautiful city has collected and preserved many ancient monuments and traditions. Here, almost every building was built on top of the foundations of old buildings from the time of the Incas.
In the historic center of Cusco (Plaza de Armas Square) you can see the Cathedral of Cosco (Santo Domingo) and church of the Society of Jesus, a monuments of historical importance. The sites worth seeing in Cusco are the Archaeological Park "Sacsayhuaman" and the Temple of the Sun "Coricancha". Cusco is the starting point for visiting the Inca Trail leading to the inconic "Machu Picchu" archaeological site.
